Welcome to AMIS, Jennie Kaffen!
Jennie Kaffen has contracted to work with AMIS, especially recruiting, training, and deploying volunteers to work with the families we serve. She has an MA in teaching with a focus in Teaching English as a Second Language, and has taught ESL for two decades at Tri- C Metro. Most of her students at Tri-C Metro are from distressed areas, and many are refugees. Getting to know her students and their struggles led her to want to do more to help them beyond the structure of the classroom.
When not teaching, she has been an organizer for a wide range of volunteer projects through her church, St Paul’s Episcopal, Cleveland Heights. These include a monthly meal delivery, a summer community art project, holiday gift collection for Fairhill center for the aging, the committee to help refugees, and more. At AMIS, she is excited to bring together her passions for welcoming newcomers through volunteer work and teaching ESL. She looks forward to helping build AMIS’ volunteer base and finding new ways to engage newcomers. Jennie lives near Shaker Square with her husband, daughter, and 3 dogs. Their son is away at college. In her free time she reads, walks, does yoga, and works on getting people to vote in November.
