Volunteer to help
We’re so grateful that Jennie Kaffen has contracted to recruit, train, and deploy volunteers to work with the families we serve! With a strong background in teaching, Jennie has taught English as a Second Language for over 20 years at Cuyahoga Community College. When not teaching, she has organized a wide range of volunteer projects through her church, St Paul’s Episcopal, Cleveland Heights. She’s always looking for ways to match our volunteers with newcomers and their needs.
While AMIS’ focus is on helping our families with their financial needs, we recognize that many other needs arise while adjusting to life in the USA. Our current volunteers help by collecting and distributing diapers, providing English tutoring and practice, and giving much needed transportation to and from medical appointments and school. Volunteers provide vital companionship and connection for our families, and often help with everyday challenges that come up in the process of settling into a new life. Knowing they have someone to call who can help with these everyday challenges means the world to our newcomers.
As the volunteer coordinator, Jennie welcomes the opportunity to meet new volunteers and match you with newcomers’ needs. Often as volunteers get to know our newcomers they come up with ways to help that we hadn’t even realized were available!
