2020 is the first Holiday Season in America for several of the immigrants AMIS supports, including *Noelani. This holiday season will be different for us Americans, but wildly different for the immigrants who have left their homelands in search of safety and a different life.
Much like AMIS, Giving Tuesday began as a grassroots effort and collaboration between multiple nonprofits. In 2012 several NYC organizations hoped to inspire people to get into the holiday spirit of generosity after Black Friday and Cyber Monday. #GivingTuesday is a special opportunity for everyone to give a helping hand to local charities through the gift of your donation on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving.
If you are in a position to give this holiday season, please consider supporting our goal of $2,000 to help fund living expenses for Noelani. As a member of the LGBTQ community, she escaped a harrowing situation in the Middle East. She is now living safely in Cleveland, learning to navigate the immigration system and learning English. Noelani is a bright, loving person who serves as a Cleveland LGBTQ Center volunteer and is eager to work once she is eligible. As she navigates this new life, AMIS has committed to helping Noelani with her rent, basic needs, and community connections to ensure her ongoing safety.
